Oi maamme Suomi…

Hyvää itsenäisyyspäivää! (Happy Independence Day!)

Today is Finnish Independence Day. Finland has been independent since 1917. If I were in Finland for this national holiday, I’d probably be glued to the television set, eating my favorite seasonal candy (Vihreitä Kuulia), watching the presidential ball and seeing all the gorgeous (and/or crazy) clothes.

Even though Finland isn’t my real home country, I still love it very much and I’m so proud of my adopted homeland and its people. Here’s to all my beloved Finns and their inner sisu…

  1. Happy Independence Day (one day late) Finland! Did you know that Randy’s family heritage is Finnish? I enjoy reading your blog & find all the cooking stuff that you do so interesting. If I lived near any of my kids or you or Shannan or Shaun, I would pay to periodically eat with you if you would let me! Happy Friday~LAS

    • I did know that! I thought it was very cool when Carrie told me he has a “sisu” tattoo :) And I think it would be a great idea for the cousins to cook a meal for all the parents sometime… you guys have definitely earned it after pulling off huge Peters gatherings year after year! Hopefully one year we’ll all be able to get together :)
