I may be a vegan, but I take making Kurt’s non-vegan dinner very seriously. :)
I made proper caramelized onions for the first time ever today – normally I just end up with sautéed ones, but today I invested the time and energy to cook them down over the course of an hour. I had NO idea how naturally sweet onions are when you give them this much love and attention! The onions were vegan so I enjoyed a bit of that in addition to the mushrooms I made in sage “butter” (actually just Earth Balance). Sooo good. Kurt got the bonus sirloin steak and cheesy potatoes, naturally. I love to cook for people and I love experimenting, so come on over and see what we end up with! I’ve actually been doing quite a bit of experimenting with baking for the first time ever, but I think I’ll save that for another post… I will say that having the time to put such a great deal of effort and love into the kitchen everyday is one of the good sides of unemployment/being a housewife. Hope you all enjoyed a delicious supper today, too! In the famous words of Julia Child, whose 100th birthday was last week, bon appétit! And enjoy this fantastic auto-tuned video of Julia from PBS:
Bring on the roasted potatoes!
Hi Cecily Hope…I always read your blog and find it fun and very interesting. I think your love of cooking must be partially passed down from your Mom…I am not sure where my girls get theirs from!! In fact all of the Peters cousins seem to love cooking – we should put your generation in charge of the next holiday dinner! And Pete and I should make our way to Michigan since you like to cook for others…but mostly of course to visit you & Kurt! Take care ~ Love, Aunt Sara ps…Do you plan to come to the Illinois game in September?
Hi Aunt Sara! Thanks for the comment :) It would be so much fun to take over a holiday dinner! And sadly, I don’t think Kurt and I will be able to make it to the game – it’s just a very long drive for us. I’ll certainly miss cheering for the Illini…
Yummmmmmmmmm!!!! :-)
